Double Dog Leash

You can use a double dog leash when you are walking two dogs at once. This gives you the ability to hold onto one leash that branches off and connects to the collars of two different dogs. Many people who have more than one dog prefer the double dog leash so that they do not have to handle more than one leash at a time. It is more convenient than having to use separate leashes, although there are some drawbacks.

The one drawback to using a double dog leash is that if you pull on it, you end up pulling on both dogs instead of just one. If you are using a training collar, you should not use a double dog leash on a trained dog and a puppy as the puppy is more likely to go out of bounds and you do not want to punish the other dog for the behavior of the puppy. The other drawback is that if you let go of the leash, you will have not one but two dogs running off.

For the most part, however, the double dog leash offers you a convenient way to walk more than one dog at a time. As dogs are pack animals and enjoy being with other dogs, they will most likely take their cue from the behavior of their companion. The dogs can learn to walk together and will most likely enjoy their walks. Dogs always enjoy walks with their human companions and having another dog along adds to the fun as dogs see other dogs and humans as equal counterparts. Your dogs, however, should see you as the top dog in the pack and the one who they want to please.

You can find a double dog leash just about anywhere that dog supplies are sold. This means pet stores, pet supply superstores and even online outlets. You can even get more than a double dog leash and get a triple, although you have to be mindful of what type of dogs you are walking. While smaller dogs may do well on a triple, most dogs walk better on a double dog leash as this will not be too many dogs for you to walk, especially if they are mid to large size.

If you are a professional pet walker, you can hardly stand to be without a double dog leash as this will make your dog walking much easier. A good professional dog walker can walk several well behaved dogs, although if you choose this route, you will want to have many separate leashes. You do not want to be pulling on all of the dogs to reign in one dog who is errant. The double dog leash is perfect if you have two dogs of any size that you wish to walk with the most convenience to you as well as the dogs.
